background: KIAA1333 is a probable E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase which accepts ubiquitin from an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme in the form of a thioester and then directly transfers the ubiquitin to targeted substrates. Function: E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase which accepts ubiquitin from an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme in the form of a thioester and then directly transfers the ubiquitin to targeted substrates.Essential in early embryonic development to prevent apoptotic death. Subcellular Location: Nucleus, nucleolus. Cytoplasm. Note: Shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. In the nucleus, delocalizes from the nucleolus to the nucleoplasm in response to DNA damage. Tissue Specificity: Predominantly expressed in brain, liver, kidney, testes and ovary. Similarity: Contains 1 HECT (E6AP-type E3 ubiquitin-proteinligase) domain. Contains 3 PHD-type zinc fingers.
