BAI1, a p53-target gene, encodes brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor, a seven-span transmembrane protein and is thought to be a member of the secretin receptor family. Brain-specific angiogenesis proteins BAI2 and BAI3 are similar to BAI1 in structure, have similar tissue specificities and may also play a role in angiogenesis. Function: Might be involved in angiogenesis inhibition. Subunit: Interacts with GABPB2 (By similarity). Subcellular Location: Cell Membrane Tissue Specificity: Strongly expressed in brain. Also detected in heart, thymus, skeletal muscle, and different cell lines. Similarity: Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 2 family. LN-TM7 subfamily. Contains 1 GPS domain. Contains 4 TSP type-1 domains.
